Sleep Dose

State accesi.

Pop Is Dead.

Wednesday, August 12, a new mixtape by NigNigNig: Sleep Dose #175 (Pop Is Dead-Banda Fantasma 007)
Meteorite fragments fall to Earth as if hurled by a distant hand. They come to ignite even more fires in an increasingly scorching summer.
From Gnod’s krautrock to the Tishoumaren desert blues of the sweet Amaria Hamadalher, trails of luminous fragments will plummet beneath an ever-darkening sky, brushing against the post-punk of The Sound, infused with the psychedelic folk of In Gowan Ring and Joshua Burkett’s new album, just released on Maple Death. And then a dive into Fym’s retro-minimal sound from 2003 and the barbaric industrial techno of Ancient Methods.
At a certain point, we take a detour that leads us to explore new trails along the path of sound, pushing us into the clearings painted by Eric Angelo Bessel in the single “Pathways,” set for release on the Portland label Lore City, and before that—and even further still—with tracks by Mike Cooper and Steinbrüchel.
Interrupting the journey is a stream of abstract dub reminiscences with Studio Pankow, the interstellar and cosmic techno of Jeff Mills, which is complemented by the sensual, minimalist noir groove of Butane and its nocturnal narcosis.
And finally, we’ll tiptoe toward a gentle and unpredictable dream with the closing session, suspended between electroacoustic ambient and minimalist avant-garde, featuring tracks by Marta Salogni & Stefano Pilia, Peter Broderick, Martina Berther and Philipp Schlotter, Kjetil Mulelid, William Basinski, and—to continue deeper and deeper down, or inward— Ulf Lohmann and his *Falling Down*, released by Kompakt in 2005.

Plunging stars and a black sun—all on a single Wednesday. Stay tuned. Pop Is Dead.

Sleep dose puntata 175

Sleep Dose, a collection of oblique, abstract and mysterious music curated by NigNigNig, fluctuating between soundscapes, psychogeographies, future and past eras and stormy dream states.

Starting from an archive of over fifty thousand tracks, the selection of tracks, determined by a prior use of tags, follows a random pattern. The result is a playlist arbitrarily limited to a maximum of 23 tracks; each playlist is then randomly mixed and reprocessed through the use of effects.

The sequence of song titles creates involuntary forms of automatic poetry, offering moments of unpredictable lyricism and narrative coherence… as well as the flow of our personal dream world, not only during sleep.
